How FAST will a COP CAR actually go?!

Welcome to Coffee Walk Ep. 132!
This week, my team and I took off on what we thought was going to be a buy for one of the rarest C10 trucks that I've ever heard of. Well, when that deal ended up not closing, the car gods redirected us to one of the most interesting cars that I've test driven and bought in a very long time.
But one very important question was FINALLY answered... exactly how fast does a police car actually go?!
And for all of our loyal Coffee Walkers that subscribe to my AMwine channel, as well as follow me here on Facebook, THANK YOU!! 200k subscribers is a huge milestone for me and my entire team to have reached and we are genuinely thankful for every single one of you!
As always… GO FAST, HAVE FUN & HAVE A GREAT WEEKEND!!

  • I got an immaculate '05 Towncar Signature Limited a few years back, made me a believer of the panther platform. Dual exhaust with chrome tips, vinyl soft top, pearl white with chrome trim, limo lights, gold hood ornament. Really sweet ride.

  • I managed a fleet of those, 118 electronically limited. They came with wiring for a radio and lights like roof bars, etc. Nothing installed but wiring is there ready to plug in including battery power terminal in the trunk, great for a powered sub. The trunk release button can be changed to work only with ign. on or battery power by switching the wire behind it, just pop the trim off the dash. Some years came with a posi rear axle and others use open rear axle and electronic traction control, some had both. Those blue coolant hoses are silicone and very expensive. I've had tons of shops try to tell me those needed to be changed (I suppose so they could get the old hoses for themselves), no they don't, they last forever. They also came with a reinforced (gusseted) frame and tuned suspension, special heavy duty (and just heavy) steel wheels and full size spare. The dual exhaust was not a true dual exhaust, it split back by the rear axle. I think the Caprice PP was a better car. 95-96 had a 300hp LT-1 with true dual 3" exhaust all the way from engine to tips. They were also unlimited and could hit 145-150 mph. Even the Front wheel drive Impalas were restricted to 126, higher than the CVPP (CVPI).

  • These are NOT hard to buy, nor rare....well the Crown Vics might be by now....but police departments sell their decommissioned vehicles all the time. They do not remove anything that effects the engine performance, only the emergency lights and siren. The old Chevy caprices DID have a performance chip.

  • As a professional emergency vehicle fleet technician I can tell you that a PPV police pursuit vehicle is the same exact vehicle you have with only suspension, tires and the speed governor is removed but there is no tuning or performance upgrades just an everyday vehicle and the p71 “interceptor” is the same as the regular 4.6 with just upgraded exhaust and larger alternator and oil cooler.

  • The 3.27 rear axle ratio cars were electronically limited from the factory to 129 MPH. The 3.55 axle ratio cars were limited to 119 MPH due to drivetrain vibration issues. Ford stated that the CVPI's could do 140 MPH, but that is highly suspect especially in full police trim.

  • I have a South Carolina p71. Approx 230,000 miles, runs like new. This car must have had all new front suspension parts, all I had to do was get an alignment, adjust the steering box. No spotlights, no evidence of a cage. There is a shotgun holder under the trunk lid. I think it was a detective car. No holes anywhere on the body. Best car I've ever got, for the money. It's silver, has SC Dept public safety decal on corner of the back window. No rust underneath, exhaust is solid.

  • If your paying storage on a car and its not a $100k collector car your almost always better off selling it. No doubt that’s a super clean crown Vic, but even in that condition can’t be worth more than $10-12 grand and the guys probably been paying $150-$200 a month to store it for God knows how long. People need to realize the drain on their life these sitting assets are. Stuff like this is not gaining $150-200/month in value and even if it was he would still be playing a zero sum game because the storage man is taking it all back from you. If you can’t store it at home just enjoy driving it or sell it off

  • 5:30 The updated air intake started in 2004. The updated intake and MAF is the same as the 30-04 Marauder. The horsepower was 220 in 2001 and increased to 250 in 2004. An updated suspension, frame, and wheel size came in 2003. Throttle-by-wire, and 31 spline axles came in 2005. New gauge cluster, 200 amp alternator, 4R75w transmission, and other things came in 2006. Many consider the 2004 to be the best year because it was the last year of mechanical throttle and the first year of 250 horsepower.

His bud went by us at maybe 130 plus , he pulled over and the race was on . In seconds they were both out of sight and the whine of a supercharger could clearly be heard . Gave it to my Dad to drive, he lent it to my brother (who is NOT not a good driver), he totaled it. I still don't really forgive him for it--would trust him with my hat. Drove the newer CVs (early 2000s) on my city job for 8 years, all of them were always unmarked with the spotlight, AM/FM radio, cruise control and power driver's seat. Felt like 220 horses tops but very good torque, no rocket, but very good cruisers at 70+ mph. Always ran good, only stranded by a bad battery.

They handled well and were reliable, just not very fast with an extra 900 lbs of gear and equipment on board. They felt best after 90k miles after removing all the gear before going to the auction block. They were faster than brand new before all the equipment install. Ford police interceptors (Taurus and Explorer) went downhill when CVPI production ceased. The Crown Vic transmission life was averaging 90-100k miles with our dept which was city only use.

No way it wasnt mounted on something and if someone was driving on the road they wouldn't be able to see around the camera. And #3 was the odometer barley moved 2/10ths. Math time. 120mph = 2 miles per min or 1 mile-30sec, 1/2 mile-15sec and 1/4 mile in 7.5sec. Sure didnt seem to me like it was movin that odo as much as it sould. Idk but i do agree with the top speed. 130 sounds pretty legit i just think it would have to work a bit harder to get there.
