Jeep CJ Scrambler History Lesson

Welcome to Coffee Walk Ep 118! Today we’re going to look at 8 Jeep CJ Scramblers. The Scrambler is considered by most in the industry to be the most collectible amongst all of the 76-86 Jeeps- I totally agree.
We are also often asked here at Collins Bros what the differences are between a Base Model Scrambler, a Scrambler Renegade (SR) and a Scrambler Laredo (SLR). In today’s episode we really get a good look at each model and their differences.
Interested in any used pull-off parts from the Scramblers featured in this episode? Shoot me an email to with what you’re looking for & your contact info and either me or one of my Jeep Specialists at will be in touch.

  • Love the Scramblers! How much would it approximately cost to have you restore the blue Scrambler that you are going to start restoring next week? My dad loved Jeeps and I fixed one up for him back in 2000. A 1985 Renegade. He learned to drive in a 50’s Willys. I have a soft spot for CJs! When I am ready to buy another CJ I am buying it from you.

  • I thought I knew everything there was to know about jeep's, but I was mistaken cuz I never noticed the narrow track of the 81 compared to newer model years...does that apply to all jeeps, as in cj5 and cj7, as well? Also, I'd love to switch my cj7 high back seats to those low backs seen in the baseline cj8 in this vid, cuz the stock high backs just suck...

I have one that someone ruined by rhino lining the whole thing white and the original engine was been rebuilt a few times before I ended up with it and even when it’s running perfect it could use at least double the horsepower the original engine is capable of making?

    • World Cabs are metal hardtops. Mostly seen in the US as half cabs on aircraft tow rigs and the approx 240 full length hard tops that were sold to the Postal Service in Alaska. In Australia there were Overlanders. Also used oveseas for military/police Jeeps. The top of the door at the back is pointed not rounded as on all other tops.

    • Lots of 97-06 Wrangler TJs out there that have that CJ look but with better driveability and you won't worry about it being rare and dinging it. Facebook Marketplace and Craigslist are full of them. Just have to be careful about frame rust. I bought a 97 about 18 months ago for offroading for $7K, has a few issues but no rust, and I'm in PA. Seen a couple ads for TJs really cheap (under $2K) at a dealer in Philly, but I suspect there are serious problems...
